So I’ve been meaning to do a write up on the car. 1939 Daimler 4 1/2 Litre. The owner is by no means rich, but lucked into the car. In the ‘50s in postwar Britain gas was expensive so these gargantuan luxury cars were cheap. He bought it because it was the only car he could afford! He would’ve bought a MG Midget but they cost twice as much, used. I made the oppo decision of becoming friends with the owner instead of watching a Ferrari F40 fire up and drive. He often reminds me that I made a mistake, such as when two people are struggling to pull an OHV straight-8 head in a one car garage.

He used to drive a Karmann Ghia (before I met him). He also keeps bugging me to fix my suspension since he loves driving my MR2. Neither of us have the garage space or money for the cars we want so he gets to drive my nimble manual sports car while I get to drive and work on a bizarre behemoth from a bygone era. He’s trying to get to drive some of the wild cars his friends have.

While it is all well and good to poke fun at people with very expensive looking classics, I would take a ride along in a heartbeat. That thing is so cool. It has just such an immense presence, doesn’t it?

I would be pestering my friends if they owned wild cars. If you trade turns at the wheel of each other's rides then you must be good friends indeed. I wish you the best.
